DRUG REHABILITATION COUNSELLING IN CROSBY

AL KHALEEL
Helping those whose lives have been affected by drugs.

AL KHALEEL is a predominantly Muslim-based and community-based organization that meets once a week to offer FREE counselling to recovering drug addicts AND their families.
Many of the addicts who attend our meetings have undergone treatment in one of the several rehabilitation centres around Johannesburg and AL KHALEEL’S aim is to continue that recovery process as the abuser re-enters society.

Drug addiction has a devastating effect on entire families.
If one or more members of YOUR family are using drugs, join us at our weekly meetings and meet others in the same situation as yourself.

Al Khaleel was formed 10 years ago, as a result of the alarming increase in substance abuse in the community, a trend which has now reached alarming proportions with even children in their early teens and younger turning to recreational drugs.

Ayesha Hoorzook who is one of the founding members of the group and head counsellor at the centre, said many of the addicts who attend the meetings have undergone treatment at one of the several rehabilitation centres in and around Johannesburg, and AL KHALEEL’S aim is to continue that recovery process as the abuser re-enters society.
Recognizing that drug abuse has a devastating effect on entire families, AL KHALEEL encourages family members and even friends of drug addicts to attend meetings. By doing so, they are able to interact with people in the same situation as themselves and benefit from sharing their experiences.

As one family member remarked, “I am so glad I heard about this group and can talk about my problems freely and without embarrassment. Until I started attending the meetings I felt ashamed that my son was a drug addict and could not even face my friends and neighbours. Now, I realize that I am not alone and the more we openly discuss the scourge of drugs in our community, the sooner we may be able to change matters for the better.”

With trained counsellors and facilitators in attendance, meetings are attended by addicts, families and friends from as far afield as Mpumalanga, North West as well as residents in the Lenasia, Laudium and Mayfair areas. Our counsellors are giving of their time, completely on a voluntary basis and are unfailing in their commitment towards the work.
Group discussions and personal counselling are held in the strictest confidence.

Meetings are held from 8pm to 10pm every Wednesday at 65 Foyle Street, Crosby, Johannesburg.
Trained facilitators and counsellors attend every meeting.
